About usApply now

Thank you for your interest in the Corporate Director, Children and Young People (DCS) role at Herefordshire Council.

Herefordshire Council is a stable, well-run unitary council in a financial position that will be the envy of many. We are proud to be the local authority for one of England’s most beautiful counties. Sitting on the border with Wales with links to both the West Midlands and the South West, we enjoy excellent partnerships across and beyond the region.

Our children’s social care services function is on a journey of improvement. Much has been achieved under the current leadership as we move towards where we want to be for the good of our children and young people. There is more to do but the foundations are in place to support practice to flourish and we have a Phase 3 Improvement Plan that will take us through to our forthcoming ILACS.

Our Education, Early Years and SEND services have strong, experienced and stable leadership and following a very positive outcome of our SEND Inspection we have a good partnership plan in place to continue the work of that partnership.

We are now seeking our next permanent Corporate Director of Children and Young People to drive forward the services and deliver lasting impact.

As DCS you will engage our political leadership ensuring that we continue to work towards their vision for high-quality, sustainable and safe children’s services in the county of Herefordshire as we earn the description of “Child Friendly Herefordshire”.

You will be someone who is excited by helping us on the next phase of our journey of improvement and will have a track record of driving improvement in children’s services over a long period. Above all, you will share our “THRIVE” values of management and leadership, putting children and young people at the heart of everything you do and supporting a workforce to lead the best quality services.
